FAFSA/CADAA Graduation Requirement: how did Val Verde USD do it?
WACAC Government Relations & Advocacy Committee (GRAC) Issue Town Hall!

Within the California Governor’s Budget Proposal for 2021-2022 (pg.91), Gov. Newsom suggests statutory changes to require Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to confirm that all high school seniors complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) beginning in the 2021-22 academic year. This legislative cycle, there is also a separate Assembly Bill (AB 469) promoting similar goals.

Join us for a brief overview of the California Governor's Budget Proposal and AB 469 by Catalina Cifuentes, Executive Director for College and Career Readiness, Riverside County Office of Education and WACAC Board Member.

Then, discover how the California Val Verde Unified School District (USD) Superintendent Mike McCormick and Asst. Superintendent Mark LeNoir successfully implemented FAFSA/CADAA as a graduation requirement in 2019, created a culture of FAFSA/CADAA completion, and their outcomes. There will also be time for questions.
