Speculative Futures: Intersections of Black Studies/Comics Studies
Please join the UC Speculative Futures Collective as we welcome comics creators John Jennings and Damian Duffy, who adapted Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred and Parable of the Sower, and Deborah Whaley, author of Black Women in Sequence: Re-inking Comics, Graphic Novels, and Anime and co-editor of Keywords for Comics Studies. They will be joined by UCSD Ethnic Studies PhD students Katherine Steelman and Melanie West, two recipients of Black Studies Project dissertation fellowships, who will talk about their work in progress at the intersection of Speculative Futures/Black Studies/Comics Studies.
