As former CEO of one the largest global firms, Jeffrey Immelt provides fresh insights into what lies ahead for the manufacturing sector, and what the government can do to address the policy challenges.

During his tenure, he led several innovative transformations that doubled industrial earnings, reshaped the portfolio, re-established market leadership, grew a strong share position in essential industries, and quadrupled emerging market revenue. He was named one of the “World’s Best CEOs” three times by Barron’s. During his tenure as CEO, GE was named “America’s Most Admired Company” by Fortune magazine and one of “The World’s Most Respected Companies” in polls by Barron’s and the Financial Times. He has received fifteen honorary degrees and numerous awards for business leadership and chaired the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness under the Obama administration. Immelt earned a B.A. degree in applied mathematics from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard University. Renee Bowen (Pastor Faculty Fellow, Professor; Director, Center for Commerce and Diplomacy @GPS UC San Diego) Renee Bowen is a professor and Pastor Faculty Fellow. She is jointly appointed at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, and the Department of Economics and is director of the Center for Commerce and Diplomacy. Her research focuses on political economy, microeconomic theory and international trade. She has published in top economics journals including the American Economic Review, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Mathematical Economics, Quarterly Journal of Political Science and the Review of International Organizations. She is a member of the California Governor's Council of Economic Advisors, a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a research fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Bowen has held positions at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Hoover Institution, the World Bank and J.P. Morgan Securities.
